This is the first painting I did in a long while that wasn’t a commissioned piece. Because of that, I felt able to do something a little different. I decided to throw everything that represents Fort McMurray to me on one canvas. Most people on the outside don’t understand this town, or they have preconceived notions of what our lives are like up here. It never gets old, seeing the reaction, the first time someone new visits for the first time. The oil and gas industry is why we moved here, but the community is why we have stayed for so long.
